Program Information and Objectives

The program consists of 120 clock hours, with 20 hours of course preparation and 4 semester credit hours. It prepares students for phlebotomy certification through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) and the American Medical Technologists (AMT) after additional venipuncture and skin puncture requirements are met. The program’s objectives include teaching asepsis techniques, venipuncture methods, understanding blood collecting tubes and additives, and learning various collection techniques for urine specimens and dermal punctures.

Academic Calendar and Course Outline

The Phlebotomy Technician program is offered in Winter and Spring terms at the main campus, Evergreen Park, and Naperville locations. The Winter 2024 term starts on January 22 and ends on March 17, while the Spring term begins on April 1 and concludes on May 26.

Admission Requirements and Tuition Fees

Admission requires a high school diploma or GED, passing an institutional entrance exam, and a minimum age of 18 years. The program cost is $1,990 for tuition, with additional fees for registration, technology, books, malpractice insurance, physical exam, immunizations, background check, and certification exams. CPR training is offered by MCC with limited free seats available for allied health program students.
